It is dark.
The air is fetid with the smells of decaying seaweed, rusty salt water, mud and urine.
There is very little room in this hot, malodorous metal box and unbeknownst to its tiny, lone occupant, one small slip up could very well mean death.
A chain locker contains the coiled anchor chain when the ship is at sea. Outside of the locker, only a small locking mechanism keeps the heavy metal links in their place. Once unlatched the anchor falls to the bottom of the sea, uncurling the chain and launching it through a small opening with a deadly force.
Sitting on this deadly seat in the darkness, crying for a mother who never comes is a little boy.
4 ½ years old, he has been consigned to this hellish prison, alone and abandoned, because he messed up some telex tape.
For 2 days and 2 nights this toddler has been locked in this chain locker, terrified, dirty, hot and filthy. No one has come to help him go potty, instead he has gone right where he is.
Those outside this little prison cell, going about their daily lives, can hear his desperate sobs but no one comes.
No one comes.
No one stops the madness.
Former members of Scientology recognize this story as the punishment of little Derrick Green onboard The Royal Scotman, one of the ships in L. Ron Hubbard’s newly formed SeaOrg fleet.
This post is not being written for them. They each have their memories, pain filled and dark.
Derrick’s story is not being retold to hurt his fellow survivors, be they children or adults who suffered at the command of Hubbard’s demented whim.
This post is for the Never Ins.
It is to explain that Scientology is not just some strange Hollywood cult that celebrities join. It is not a harmless religion, deserving of spiritual respect and liberty.
Scientology is an insidious, shadow dweller.
It operates in secrecy and enforced silences. Those who participate go in whole and come out in pieces that take a lifetime to put back together.
There is nothing benign or acceptable about Hubbard’s Moonchild, Scientology.
He birthed her in lies, paranoia, isolation and manipulation and nothing has changed.
The truth needs to be exposed to everyone who can hear it. There needs to be an outcry, an uprising of outrage for all those who were mistreated before and for all those who are being abused today.
Hubbard’s way is the only way for Scientology. His methods are the cult’s sacred scripture and David Miscavige, by his own admission is the one tasked with keeping those scriptures unchanged, pristine and followed to the letter. Interpretation is not permitted, so if their Source labeled a six year old an SP then no child in any era was or is safe.
People need to know about the history because it is being repeated even now.
There is a saying; “the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior”.
Abusers abuse unless someone or something stops the cycle.
We need to be that something.
Derrick Green was not the only small child incarcerated in the dark, dangerous chain locker.
There were others, including a little girl named Angela. Six years old at the time, Hubbard declared her a Suppressive Person and locked her, sobbing and alone in that deadly chain locker.
From the book “Messiah or Madman” Bent Corydon relates this incident: “Hubbard had ordered a little girl who was a deaf-mute down into the chain locker sometime in 1968. Hubbard was going to cure her deaf-ness by shoving her down there! This came to my attention after she’d been there for about a week because the Master at Arms at the time, a beautiful girl, came to me and said, “John, I’ve got to have you come and see what’s going on.”
It is also mentioned in the book “Religion Inc.: the Church of Scientology” by Stewart Lamont: “McMaster remembers once being asked by the Master at Arms to come and help her, He pulled up the wedge from the chain-locker, a dank and unhealthy part of the ship into which offenders were flung without food as a punishment. Out crawled a little girl who turned out to be a deaf-mute who had been unable to write her name and had incurred the Commodore’s wrath.”
Time moved forward and although the faces changed, the abandonment and abuse has remained consistent.
Jenna Miscavige Hill told of her lonely, militant upbringing at a Scientology owned ranch just outside of L.A.
Only seeing her parents a few short times over many years, she spent her childhood working 35 hour work weeks hauling rocks or gravel, cleaning, weeding or whatever else needed doing.
Again the calendar marches steadily on and stories of abuse and molestation continue to be told.
Nathan Rich and Tara Reile described their nightmare childhoods at the Cult’s Mace-Kingsley school. Children were dropped off by their parents and left behind for whatever excuse. Beaten with wooden paddles, washed in public with wire brushes, lied to and forced to work long hours of hard, manual labor, the dates change but the abuse is consistent.
These are just a few of the stories that exist. Over the years more and more people are stepping forward with their truths.
Right up until 2019 allegations are being investigated in Clearwater, Florida of sexual abuse and coverups by Hubbard’s organization.
Scientology, of course, categorically denies, refutes blah, blah, blah.
The fact is that there is a steady, consistent pattern of child abuse beginning with Hubbard and continuing forward to today.
It is unreasonable to believe that for 60 years people who grew up in Scientology have all made up stories of the most heinous and abominable abuse, forced labor and sexual molestation just for shits and giggles.
There are children being raised in this cult right now. They have parents dedicated to the SeaOrg for whom duty is first and foremost over everything else. There are children who are at the mercy of pedophiles who have been protected and defended by Scientology, allowing them to prey on victim after victim.
Little, growing and developing bodies are put through the unlicensed, unregulated Purification Rundown, exposing them to massive doses of vitamins and minerals with dangerous side effects.
If you are a parent, think about tucking your little ones in for the night. Think of their smiles and how it feels when they wrap their arms around you.
Then remember little Derrick and Angela, crying alone and afraid in that filthy, stinking chain locker.
Think that tonight there are babies out there crying themselves to sleep with no parent to tuck them in. Let your thoughts wander to the child who is frightened and hurting because someone touched them today and then told them it was their fault.
Remember that while COS is denying any abuse at all, there is a history.
Where is law enforcement? Where is Child Protective Services?
This is Scientology.
This is L. Ron Hubbard’s creation, where 6 year olds are labeled and punished for being Suppressive Persons.
Where part of their very scripture says; “The seven-year-old girl who shudders because a man kisses her is not computing; she is reacting to an engram since at seven she should see nothing wrong in a kiss, not even a passionate one. There must have been an earlier experience, possibly prenatal, which made men or kissing very bad.”
