An Announcement

I have made the difficult decision that I can be more personally effective as a “private citizen” rather than as a member of the board of the Aftermath Foundation.

Necessary and practical guidelines in place for all 501c3 organizations have conflicted with my ability to continue to express myself fully on my blog and social media account. This does not reflect on either the foundation or myself, they are simply not compatible for me personally.

I have resigned my position effective today, May 22, 2024.

I want to be crystal clear here: I was not asked to resign nor have I been removed. In fact, I have consistently been told that no one wanted me to leave the position.

ALL of the other board members, especially Claire Headley, have been supportive of me to the best of their ability under these fraught circumstances.

I also want to be clear that neither Aaron nor his cult have forced my decision. If any of them decide to do another video declaring any sort of victory here, remember that is also exactly what Scientology did to Mike Rinder and Leah Remini when the multi award-winning docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath wrapped on A&E.

I am doing what I feel is best for me and it may very well turn out not to be what is best for some others.

Be careful what one wishes for.

Over the years the work I have done led me to the understanding that there was no more vicious a group than that of Scientology when fighting its enemies.

I was wrong.

Never could I have imagined that the group who would engage in vicious attacks against a foundation and its board members would be a community of ex-Scientologists led by Aaron Smith-Levin.

Arriving at a point where I would more welcome an attack by Scientology, than from a group claiming to be advocating for victims of Scientology…well…this is a serious problem.

My concern is that due to the selective, convenient lack of understanding surrounding my personal opinions and my personal activities on social media and my position on the board, I became a path to target the foundation and individual board members and this I will not tolerate.

I will also not be silenced.

I can assure everyone that the foundation is going strong, doing well and engaged in the important work it was created to do.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank, publicly and from my heart, several particular people who have been so loving, supportive and a real strength for me during the ugly nastiness spread by Aaron Smith-Levin and his fledgling cult:
Marie AKA SkyBird. You checked in on me constantly making sure I was OK. You have supported me, made me laugh and are my friend. I love you.

Sera, you know. ❤️
